Gabe Talamantes is one of those skaters that’s been around for a long time but also feels fresh and exciting. He just has a unique style and good eye for tricks. We’ve long ago lost count of the times we’ve run into Gabe at events or sessions, and his status as one of the core Chicago bladers is unquestioned. But when we crossed paths at the 2023 Metro Card Classic last fall, it was pretty obvious that he’d caught the New York bug.
He said something like “I think I want to move here…” and that was the last we thought about it. Then a couple months ago Gabe started posting clips from NYC sessions. Then he was posting random stuff from around the city. Then we remembered what he’d said and it clicked. Sure enough, this longtime resident of the Windy City had packed his boots and rolled to the Big Apple for a change of scenery. It seems like he’s right at home. Quickly plugging in with local friends and skaters, Gabe got to work with Sean Grossman and his recently acquired vintage Sony VX, plus Shawn Graddy on the shutter for photos as they roamed the city for spots. Now the results are here for your blading inspiration in Gabe’s first New York project, fittingly titled “NYC 2024”.

I call New Mexico home now after being away from the rockies for over 20 years. Since my arrival here this new territory is a consistent marvel. People don’t really perceive New Mexico as an “outdoor” state but i’m here to tell you it IS. The Rockies start here so the typography might not be as aggressive as Colorado peaks, but is beautiful in a different way, ANEW way.
Taking that as a catalyst for this adventure I wanted to seek out some skaters that have a diverse skill set to adventure around this enchanted state with me. They should Skate and rock climb for this idea to work. I reached out to long time friend Luke Bender to see if he was interested. Luke enthusiastically accepted the challenges and recommended Adam Bazydlo who then recommended Mick Casals.
A “solid group of producers” said Adam after the plan was set. This was not aimed to be a “party tour” mission as we all had a lot of work to do. After all there are only a few of us, and we needed to pull out a film from only a long weekend, then back to our daily lives. We had some spots mapped out for skating but the climbing spots were very up in the air as we did not know the area all that well. The guys were actively hunting their climbing app called “Mountain Project” to find the hidden treasures fit for our climbing shots. Hmm why don’t we have an app for skating spots… maybe it’s better we don’t. The Boys arrived at the ANEW compound in Taos NM (@casadenadataos) early the day before we set off eager and happy for the adventure to start. - Sayer Danforth.

Ten years may have passed since the last BCSD but the excitement raged on as an international field of bladers took to the course at Modern Skatepark for a chance to earn the title of BCSD Champ. After a long day of impressive blading and exciting tricks, Luke Naylor took the title with an incredible Finals-round showing where he leveled up in real time, linking highly technical tricks back-to-back to come out on top. Congrats to everyone that came out to Detroit for the event and each and every competitor, with special thanks to Daniel Kinney for making it happen “one more time.” - Oneblademag.com.

Rollerblading has a pretty forward-thinking history when it comes to gender within our community. Women have long held roles as leading pioneers in blading, from Angie Walton launching Daily Bread Magazine to Fabiola Da Silva smashing gender barriers to compete directly against men on the competition circuit.
And even during the stark lack of media exposure for blading, occasionally groups of women would be gathered for speciality events that might even get some airtime on major networks. So no matter whether you’ve ever thought about it or not, blading has been ahead of contemporary culture in this regard. That’s cool! And keeping that legacy alive is Coco Sanchez, a talented female roller that models, does demoes and shows for All Wheels Sports, and shreds hard at every event she enters.
Back in 2015 Jeff Linett produced these images and they served as the foundation for a long-overdue interview in ONE Digi v.5. — and we’re proud to re-present the full interview here for anyone that may have missed it before. Enjoy!

Philip Moore is one of the most interesting rollerbladers we’ve met in a long time. And lucky for us we got to blade, film and hang with him more than a few times the past twelve months, during which time the Issue 23 AM Hour spot was filled, a section for Just Blade was filmed, and all with enough heavy duty extra materials left over to dedicate the time and space necessary to bring more attention to this talented skater who has succeeded in carving out his own path within blading.
So take some time to learn about this pizza loving Alabama-native and enjoy a detailed look at the many nuances of his technical skating, captured mostly by Sean Macgowan with a header photo by Erick Garcia. - One Mag.

In October 2017, One Mag spent a single afternoon in Manhattan skating with Austin Paz, Ariel Surun and Abdiel Colberg. This is a look at that session and the spirit of blading in the city. Special Guest: Mike Torres.
