STREETS OF LAGOS | (African Rollerblading Documentary) by Dom West
Shot on location in West Africa, ‘Streets of Lagos’ provides a rare insight into the lives of Nigeria’s first generation of rollerbladers. What was once a niche sport that saw widespread participation across the globe in the late 90’s has emerged in 2020 as a fringe subculture in the streets of Lagos. Originally used as a way to navigate the city’s dense traffic, today, a select few use their skates as a form of self-expression, something which can be hard to find in what is one of the toughest cities in the world.
The story is told through the eyes of Daniel Ogbogu, Lagos’ strongest up-and-coming street skater, who gives insight into the struggles of daily life in Nigeria and the strength that skating gives him. He is joined by travelling professional athlete, Brian Freeman, who seeks to nurture the sense of community amongst the youths of Lagos and to help them find sense in the chaotic world in which they live.
A Film by Dom West. Starring Daniel Ogbogu & Brian Freeman. Soundtrack: Rob Law & Music Bed. Shot on location: Lagos, Nigeria.

Short documentary about Jara Mrstny rollerblading career and his bad crash in 2019.
What happened to aggressive rollerblading? In-line skating? The X games presenting rollerbladers? It is a darn good question. It was such a big sport and was growing. 9,000,000 kids–mostly boys and some girls–considered themselves aggressive rollerbladers - just in the USA.
I got the chance to make a documentary with 2 top competitive aggressive skater teams–in New York City and in Los Angeles. These young people were very friendly to me and I could not have made the film without them. The feature film didn’t make it financially but it was and still is popular with many of the skaters. All of the skaters in my film are of course adults now and their skating days are long gone. Here is an article with some views on what happened. - David Hoffman.
Intuition rider Chris Haffey (aka Chris Half-Aussie) checks in from his second home in Australia, and unboxes a fresh pair of throwback future shoes from his childhood hero Brian Shima. These days, Chris and his wife Elle are raising their son Cruz down under - waiting out the pandemic, eager to return to California soon. Lucky for us, he got with Dom West to give us a glimpse of classic Haffey skating, in new again skates from a previous era.
Filmed by Chris Haffey & Dom West, edited by Dom West & Cody Norman.
